Doctor Who: Season 26B

  Season 56 of Doctor Who aired from November 7th 2021 for six episodes, the season  was initially scheduled to air in the first half of 2021 and consist of 8 episodes with an entirely different story arc. The season was postponed until mid- to late-2021, when it was thought that Covid had sufficiently subsided, because of the 2020 Covid-19 outbreak. As a result, this season was the most problematic since 1986. Finally, in November 2020, production on Season 56 began in preparation for its late 2021 airdate. In August 2021, it was officially announced that Simone Ashley and Andrew Buchan would be departing from Doctor Who at the conclusion of the current season. Both actors expressed their affection for the programme and acknowledged that their characters had spent enough time aboard the TARDIS, therefore they thought it was time to move on. Doctor Who: After Travels would’ve been the third canonical spin-off series for Doctor Who after ‘Earth Defence’ and ‘Olympus’, it would’ve been created by Pete McTighe. After taking over as showrunner, Chris Chibnall saw that a significant portion of Doctor Who's younger audience had left, and the show had begun to explore darker themes. Chibnall realised he needed to take action because children make up the foundation audience for Doctor Who. Subsequently, he concluded that it would be a good idea to create an animated cartoon series that would focus on past companions after they had departed the TARDIS. The actors could simply be brought back to record the programme in a recording studio. Pete McTighe was appointed as the showrunner, from that point it was up to him to create the show and what would happen in every season.   After 12 years off screen TV, Olympus returned for a fourth series and just like Children of Earth it would be one long story arc subtitled ‘Incursion’. Paterson Joseph and Christina Cole returned as Hal Adams and Charley Wilson, with new cast members for the show. Ace Bhatti was introduced as a new character - The Rt. Honourable Haresh Chandra, who would be later canonised as a past relative of his 2016 character Ronan Crowley. A surprise in the trailer was the return of Ariyon Bakare as the Master and Lisa Bowerman as Bernice Summerfield. The series would be overseen by Russell T Davies, showrunner of Doctor Who from 2006-10 and creator of Olympus. Chibnall wanted to bring back Olympus when he returned to Doctor Who as to give the Doctor Who franchise a popularity boost to get people more interested with the show again, he asked Russell T Davies to return and write a story with Olympus to which he accepted.
