Doctor Who: After Travels - 2022
Series Two of “Doctor Who: After Travels” aired from September 4th - October 9th 2022, nothing really changed from the last season.
The Grey Man of The Mountain
By Lizabeth Miles
Aiming to get to Edinburgh for Hogmanay, the Doctor landed near Ben MacDui. He encountered Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, voiced by Jon Culshaw, who told him he was investigating on behalf of UNIT. He went up the mountain to find with the Brigadier and his scientific experts. He was worried at what was in the mountain and was determined to get to shelter. He thought that people should leave this mountain alone. He warned Ace about looking at the face of the Grey Man. He saw that the Grey Man was a proto-human and lived in a separate world that was accidentally at the top of the summit. He vowed to cut the worlds apart to save both species.
Colony of Fear
By Ronald Moore
Responding to a distress call, the Doctor and Mel landed on Triketha. He found the way the Toxarians collected data about them, and could hear them telepathically. He learnt that the Toxarians were not native to this planet and went to find the spaceship that took them their. He discovered that the ship contained a set of rare and endangered species. He defrosted Tarlos from his cryochamber, and learnt more about the venom. He realised that Tarlos was a former travelling companion during his second incarnation. He managed to stop the insects and rescued Mel, Tarlos and Edwin from the explosion. He vowed to try and regain his memories of Tarlos.
The Blazing Hour
By James Kettle
The Doctor and Turlough landed on Testament when the human empire was centred there. He was delighted to eventually visit there but was concerned when noone knew how the power was generated. He learnt from Katherine Ellison that she predicted the energy increase would cause an explosion. He found it appalling that the humans were exploiting the Blinovitch Limitation Effect as an energy source. After the explosion, Horobin thought the Doctor was a saboteur and didn't think that he was right about the explosion. He was told that Turlough had died in the explosion by Violet Hardaker. He wanted the planet imploded to stop the explosion and tried to explain this to the prime minister. He wasn't sure that he wanted to go through with the explosion as it would kill a culture.
Legend of The Sea Devils
By Chris Chibnall and Ella Road
The Fourth Doctor, Sarah (Voiced by Sadie Miller) and Harry (Voiced by Christopher Naylor) find themselves in 1807 China where they thwarted a pirate Sea Devil's plan to use the Keystone to flood the entire Earth. Before Sin Ji-Hun laid down his life instead.
Dalek Empire
By Nicholas Briggs
This is a Doctor-lite story and sees the Daleks conquering many worlds with a few fan favourite monsters such as the Sycorax, the Ood, the Draconians, the Ice Warriors, the Sensorites and the Judoon trying to stop them but failing.
The End of The Beginning
By Robert Valentine
This story covers three plotlines.
The first plot sees the Fifth Doctor and Turlough join an expedition to uncover a lost Mesopotamian city. Along the way, they are joined by genial local Ibrahim and threatened by the menacing John Quarrington, who wants to beat them to it.
The Second Plot sees the Sixth Doctor and Mel become embroiled in the machinations of the Freebooters: a gang who have been terrorising the area.
The Third Plot sees the Seventh Doctor and Ace arrive in 1990s London to visit an art exhibit known only as Darkness! While Ace explores the city, the Doctor visits an old undead friend to catch up as the Doctor’s friend is a vampire! This is a delightful, pulpy, gothic story with some really great ambience, aided by Wilfredo Accosta‘s evocative sound design and music.
This all comes together as we get an epic climax with three Doctors, as we meet the mysterious Vakrass, the last of the Death Lords, who has been plaguing the Doctor throughout the story while we also cross paths with fabled Time Lord Gostak. Both characters are not what they seem, bringing some good twists to the tale.
And with that comes the end of Series Two of “Doctor Who: After Travels”, this season was not as popular like the last and the ratings did slip a bit. It was found rather unfair that the show was announced that it would not receive a fourth season.
